Innovative solutions to improved sound insulation of CLT floors

چکیده
Building with cross laminated timber (CLT) has gain increased interest over the last years, but in common to other wood-based building systems, inadequate low-frequency sound insulation is seen as a problem. This paper deals two methods improve of CLT panels, normally made from spruce: 1) heavy CLT, introducing compressed, i.e. densified, spruce well alternative wood species, and 2) elastic layer based upon shear motion. In addition series laboratory measurements, full-scale floor 60 mm birch panels 12 between was tested two-room test mock-up. The results acoustical measurements showed that about 7 dB greater airborne impact for one-third octave bands, 50–3150 Hz, compared standard same total height.

Sound insulation issues
This paper gives an overview of three topics related to sound insulation in buildings. The first project included laboratory and field measurements of sound insulation against aircraft noise. As well as various technical papers, the project produced software to help in the design of adequate sound insulation. In a second project, re-analysis of survey results allowed the development of a ration...
متن کاملAnalysis of acoustical behavior of bare cross laminated timber floors for the evaluation of the improvement of impact sound insulation
The estimation of impact sound insulation of horizontal partitions, evaluated from the performance of basic components using EN 12354-2 Standard, do not actually provides satisfactory results when applied to the floors realized with cross laminated timber (CLT) elements. Among the possible reasons of this limited correspondence between predicted and measured impact noise values, one of the most...
متن کاملPredicting the Sound Insulation of Walls
Between 1990 and 1998, the author published five conference papers which described the gradual development of a simple theoretical model for predicting the sound insulation of building partitions. The first aim was to extend Sharp’s model for cavity walls to cavities without sound absorption. The second aim was to remove the reported over prediction of Sharp’s model for cavity walls. The third ...
متن کاملSound insulation in multi-story timber buildings
During on an extensive investigation of a multi-story timber building with light-frame construction, several stages of the building process and their impact on sound transmission were observed. The sound insulation properties of the building components were measured before and while the buildings were occupied. Furthermore, interviews with the occupants were conducted. This procedure made it po...
متن کاملInvestigation of Acoustic Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites regarding Combined Sound Absorption and Insulation Characteristics
Introduction: Nowadays multiple techniques have been developed to noise control. One the most important way is the control based on sound absorption and insulation. The purpose of current study was to improve the acoustic properties of soft polyurethane foam regarding combined sound absorption and insulation characteristics. Materials and Methods: Polyacrylonitrile and polyvinylidine fluoride ...
